What you are going to learn

About this course

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a first line, evidence-based treatment for PTSD. Its success in decreasing symptoms of PTSD is driven, in large part, by the skillful identification and exploration of trauma-related beliefs, termed stuck points. In this workshop, participants will access resources to improve their skills in identifying stuck points, learn to tell the difference between assimilated and over-accommodated beliefs, and use that understanding to guide treatment in the right order.

Participants will also pick up practical tips on how to word, organize, and adjust stuck points in ways that really support change. Whether you’re just getting started with CPT or you’ve been using it for a while and want to strengthen your skills, this workshop offers a supportive space to boost participants effectiveness and make working with stuck points feel more natural and efficient.

Case examples, live demonstrations, and experiential exercises will be used to bring your learning to life and give your concrete skills to translate directly into your practice.

You will learn:

  • The unique characteristics of stuck points

  • How to clarify stuck points and explore different methods for identifying them throughout CPT

  • Enhanced methods for distinguishing assimilated from over accommodated stuck points

  • How to effectively generate alternative thoughts
