Dr Candice Monson
Clinical Psychologist, Researcher, Clinician,
Co-author of CPT
Dr. Monson is a Professor of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University and Founder and CEO of Nellie Health. She is one of the foremost experts on traumatic stress, and specifically individual and conjoint therapies for PTSD and the interpersonal aspects of traumatization and recovery. Dr. Monson has received numerous awards for her clinical, teaching, and research contributions, including Fellow status in the Canadian and American Psychological Associations, Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies. She has been inducted into the Royal Society of Canada and Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. In 2025, Dr. Monson won the Canadian Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Science. Dr. Monson has published over 200 publications and co-authored 8 books, including the treatment manuals Cognitive Processing Therapy: A Comprehensive Manual and Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD. Dr. Monson is well-known for her clinical training and therapy dissemination efforts.
Dr. Kelly Maieritisch
Clinical Psychologist, Chief Education and Community Development Officer

Dr. Maieritsch specializes in the assessment and treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions. Dr. Maieritsch earned her PhD from Central Michigan University and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of St. Louis under the mentorship of Dr. Patricia Resick. With over 21 years of experience in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Maieritsch has developed, managed, and extensively consulted with specialized PTSD care programs. She served as Director of the PTSD Mentoring and Implementation Program, sponsored by the National Center for PTSD, where she led efforts to coordinate and consult on best practices across more than 200 specialty clinics. This included producing extensive educational resources and providing implementation support. She is also a national trainer and consultant for Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), having trained and supported over 500+ clinicians. In addition, she has served as a therapist, investigator, and fidelity rater on multiple research trials involving CPT.
A trained Change Management practitioner, Dr. Maieritsch has participated in implementing multiple VA initiatives focusing on improving the quality of mental health care. She led the development and management of multiple PTSD specialty clinics, supervising providers and delivering care to Veterans. Dr. Maieritsch is passionate about ensuring access to quality mental health care.
Dr Steffany Fredman
Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies
Steffany Fredman studies the intimate relationship context of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related conditions across the lifespan and couple-based interventions for PTSD that simultaneously treat the disorder and enhance couple/family functioning.
