Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a first-line, evidence-based treatment for PTSD, recommended in clinical practice guidelines worldwide. Becoming a CPT Trained Provider

What are you are going to learn?

  • Participants will gain a solid foundation in CPT, including:
  • Instruction in the theoretical foundations of CPT to support case conceptualization
  • Step-by-step guidance through each session of the protocol
  • Demonstrations using video recordings from actual cases
  • Hands-on practice with therapy materials through structured role-plays
  • Interactive discussion of common challenges in CPT delivery

Training Goals:

  • Describe the theory underlying CPT to inform individual case conceptualization
  • Learn the key elements within the session-by-session CPT protocol
  • Identify common challenges to implementing CPT (e.g., client adherence, managing comorbidities) and strategies for over- coming complex cases
  • Explain how to conceptualize the cognitive and behavioral mechanisms in CPT that target PTSD symptoms and maladaptive beliefs
  • Demonstrate the use of Socratic questioning as it pertains to CPT
  • Learn the differences between assimilation and accommodation in the development of maladaptive PTSD related cognitions

Kelly Maieritsch, PhD

Clinical Psychologist, Founder & Principal, KPM Clinical and Consulting Services, PLLC


Dr. Maieritsch is a recognized leader in the assessment and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions, with particular expertise in the implementation and sustainment of evidence-based psychotherapies. She is an international trainer and consultant for Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), having trained and supported more than 1,000 clinicians across diverse service settings. She has served as a therapist, investigator, and fidelity rater on multiple CPT research trials.

Dr. Maieritsch served as director of the PTSD Mentoring and Implementation Program at the National Center for PTSD within the US Department of Veterans Affairs, where she coordinated national consultation initiatives to promote high-quality delivery, measurement-informed practice, and program sustainability across more than 200 PTSD specialty clinics. Her professional interests include advancing the uptake of evidence-based care, strengthening episodes of care, building implementation capacity within clinical teams, and supporting system-level change.

Phil Shnaider, C. Psych.

Clinical Psychologist, CPT Trainer and Private Practice 


Dr. Shnaider is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice with expertise in evidence-based treatments for anxiety and trauma-related disorders. He previously held an academic appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University and has worked as a psychologist at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and at St. Joseph’s Healthcare’s Operational Stress Injury Clinic.

He is co-author of Treating PTSD with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies: Interventions That Work and has made meaningful contributions to the scientific literature through peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His work focuses on advancing individual, couple, and group cognitive-behavioural therapies. He is deeply committed to training clinicians in effective, evidence-based PTSD treatments.
